In front of the Metropolitan Detention Center, Gavin got out of the car and gave Lily a call while checking the time.

Damn, Lily White. Don’t tell me you lied to me?

As soon as he received a call asking to see him urgently, he rushed to this place.

He had waited for five whole hours already, even after using the FBI badge to make a private visit possible.

“Look, Rose is still…!”

[Didn’t she tell you that she would come? Why are you in such a hurry?! How long will you keep calling me? Just so you know, I have a life too!]

“Now the situation…!”

[I’m hanging up.]

Cursing at Lily’s overly insensitive response, Gavin hung up and paced in front of the main gate.

Rose was not a woman to break her promises. She must have come upon some unavoidable circumstance, such as the appearance of Yuri Petrov. Now that he had heard that Giulio Parenti’s private plane had just left the US, the only person who could detain her presently was Yuri Petrov.

“Then it’s all the more worse.”

Gavin grimaced and roughly swept a hand over his face. Just when he thought about going for a smoke, his eyes narrowed when he spotted a luxury SUV entering the parking lot. The other side also noticed Gavin and slowly slowed down the car.

“I knew that it would come to this.”

The car stopped and Sei got out of it, alone. His foreboding turned out to be right. When Gavin noticed Yuri Petrov sitting in the driver’s seat, he said with a bitter expression on his face, “Seriously Rose, why are you always late? You know it’s way past visiting hours, right?”

Dressed in jeans, a shirt, and a cardigan, Sei strode toward him with a grin on her face.

“I’m sorry. But still, I had no idea you still had it in you. I’ll go in now, so please take care of it.”

“Do you take me for some police cheat idiot? Also bringing that mafia bastard in front of the FBI, what the hell are you thinking?”

“That’s Kais Miller. He isn’t from the mafia. He’s a hacker.”

“Hey, are you joking?”

“I’m afraid not, didn’t I tell you he’s the real Kais Miller? Anyway, I want to go in before it gets too late.”

Sei, who glanced back at Yuri, waved her hand. To his chagrin, Yuri Petrov winked at her with a laid-back, relaxed expression on his face. The abnormal confidence his figure was emitting was truly dangerous.

After calling an assistant, Gavin circled Sei’s shoulder with his arm, not taking his eyes off Yuri even once.

“If you show your ID and go in, Frederick Scott will come to meet you. He will be your guide, so follow him quietly.”

“It’ll be a private visit, right?”

“I did everything I could. By the way… What about our deal?”

“It’s still valid.”

Lowering her voice, she nervously walked right through the front door. Gavin made his way toward the driver’s seat where Yuri was sitting. It was quite an ordeal to hold back the constant urge to take out his handgun, which was stashed in his back pocket at the moment.

Yuri, seeing Gavin approaching, opened the car door and got out.

“For someone in his mid-30s, aren’t you past the age of having a growth spurt? You should go see a doctor. You seem taller than before.”

As Sei said, Yuri was now Kais Miller. That fact gave Gavin some faith. Faith that Yuri at least wouldn’t shoot him in front of a police detention center.

As if knowing exactly what Gavin was thinking, Yuri calmly leaned against the car, took out a cigarette, and said, “You’ve lost some weight from all the hard times you went through because of someone. Maybe that’s why you look taller.”

“I was chased by all kinds of criminals because of you. You did it on purpose, didn’t you? I know you’ve purposely tied up all the accounts I used to manage with Rose. Little by little.”

Gavin clenched his teeth tightly in resentment. However, Yuri’s attention seemed to be focused only on Sei, who had just entered the detention center. Gavin’s mood plummeted even more when he saw how Yuri turned a deaf ear to his words.

“Hey, Yuri Petrov.”

“Kais Miller.”

“All right, Kais. This is America and I’m the FBI. I can arrest you right now. But you know I’m not gonna do that, right?”

Yuri smiled blandly and simply shrugged his shoulders.

“So, should I be generous to you, too?”

“I just believe that you and my God are the same.”

“What if I’m an atheist?”

Yuri’s pun made Gavin feel strange. It held a languidness that was peculiar only to predators. Or rather to a satisfying atmosphere? Yuri now looked very happy. Gavin had a hunch that something was a little off.

“I heard that the Red Mafia offered her 10 million dollars.”

“It’s 15 million as far as I know. And there’s still room for more options.”

“Fifteen million? Ha, damn it.”

“Hey, Pablo.”

Perhaps because he hadn’t heard the name Pablo for a long time, Gavin felt as if he had gone back to his old days. The days when they ate popcorn while watching baseball together.

Yuri took a step toward him and lit a cigarette.

“As an FBI, I understand how you want to wipe out the villains with a sense of justice. But you should have stopped there. You shouldn’t have dragged Sei into it. If you had come to me and begged for your life, I might have helped you with your revenge. Don’t you think so?”

There was a chilling threat to the plain tone he used. Yuri’s features became blurred by the pungent cigarette smoke hovering over his face. Beyond the smoke, his red lips continued to move.

“I’ve already saved your life in Nice. I correctly relayed your last distress signal to the FBI. Actually, I want nothing more than to kill you.”

Burned ashes fell out from the cigarette. Gavin closed his eyes tightly and barely spoke. “I’m sorry I stole your stuff. But at that time, I didn’t have a way out either. Like you said, I have been blinded by revenge…”

“Did you attack Sei?”

“What?”

“There was a wound of more than five centimeters and a lump on the back of her head. Did you know that she vomited a couple of times because of the aftereffects? When I look at her struggling… I get angry.”

No way, do I have to run for my life just because I targeted Jang Sei?

He couldn’t believe it. He didn’t look like the Yuri Petrov he knew until now. What if the reason he was clinging to Jang Sei isn’t because of the stuff?

The downcast grayish-blue eyes narrowed at him.

“To attack an innocent citizen just to save yourself. Is that what the FBI calls justice? This is why the FBI can’t be trusted.”

Gavin rubbed his stiff neck as a chilling foreboding came over him and furrowed his brows.

“… Did you retrieve it?”

“Perfectly.”

As Yuri muttered softly, the corners of his mouth arched up. Gavin shook his head with a miserable look.

The disappearance of the key meant that he had to start all over again.
