Chapter 3

“This is ridiculous! It’s all his fault, so why are you taking the blame all by yourself, Kyrie?!”

Kyrie smiled at Laura’s handwriting, which was scribbled in anger.

‘I’ll have to reply when I get there.’

At the order of her father, the Count, Kyrie was on her way to his villa.

Count Buchanan’s villa, like any noble villa, was located on the southern coast of the continent.

Since she wanted to go somewhere anyway, Kyrie agreed to go on that journey, ignoring the falling snow.

‘The winter sea isn’t bad either.’

The capital, Sel Arellano, was gorgeous yet uncomfortable. At every ball, people would compare Kyrie and Rubinia one by one.

“You were acting as if you’re alone and helpless without a man. I guess Miss Buchanan isn’t much better off. Don’t you think so?”

“I know, right? What’s the point of doing a good job when you’ll fail at love anyway…”

“It’s understandable that the Crown Prince chose Miss Cassner!”

They seemed to be happy that Kyrie, who never gossipped, was caught within a scandal. Since her engagement with Ethan had been broken off, there would be even more gossip about her now.

It would be better if Laura and Maria were next to her, but it was impossible for them to be able to hang out together forever.

‘Good for you. I’ll come back when it’s a bit quieter. In the meantime, I wish for you two to get married.’

In fact, Kyrie thought that Rubinia Cassner was better suited with Ethan than herself. Rubinia, being lively and cute, was lovely even in Kyrie’s eyes.

But at one point, Kyrie felt reluctance from Rubinia.

It was when Ethan had said, “I’m going to put down the name of Orewinbridge.”

At that moment, Rubinia glared at Ethan with a ghastly face.

Her blatant feelings about her, ones of which had been drowning, were quickly replaced by her original good ones. However, Kyrie could no longer view Rubinia favorably. It was from then on that she had to withdraw against Rubinia with the thought that it would be annoying if she did something wrong.

Anyways, there were only two reasons why Kyrie quietly obeyed her order of engagement.

The first of it was an obsession for her to remain noble no matter what happened.

The second was her twisted sense of responsibility to do anything for her family.

As her engagement was annulled, Kyrie ironically felt free from both of those reasons.

‘It’s all over now, so everything is okay.’

Kyrie stared blankly at the falling snow, and her carriage stopped.

Knock, knock.

There was a knock on the door of the carriage.

“What’s going on?”

As Kyrie moved, Anne Marie, who was sitting near the door, opened it for her.

It was Valdir who was outside. He was a knight of Count Buchanan and accompanied Kyrie as an escort.

“Milady, we have a problem.”

“What’s the matter, Sir Valdir?”

“It’ll be difficult to move forward anymore due to heavy snowfall. It’d be best for you to find a place to rest.”

The guide stood restlessly behind Valdir. The snow was piled up to the calves of both Valdir and the coachman.

Kyrie sighed as she put on a shawl from Anne Marie.

“It’d be nice if we can rest in the last village we passed by.”

Kyrie had a good feeling before.

Now, she wasn’t feeling well, so she wanted to stay in the previous village for a few days. However, the guide told them that it wasn’t time for heavy snow to fall yet, so she told him to do whatever he wanted.

They came back the same way. Although it was certainly not the time for heavy snowfall yet, the carriages were already isolated.

Valdir looked at the guide with disapproving eyes, and Kyrie moved to the door and sat down.

“Give me a map. Let’s take some measures beforehand.”

“Yes, Miss.”

Her body already trembled in the cold. “The nearest area is the city of Envinique within Vermont. Can we get there?”

“It will be difficult. To get to Envinique, we’ll have to go over a mountain, but the horses are very tired.”

“What about going back to the previous village?”

“There is already too big of a risk of getting into an accident because the downhill road is frozen.”

“That’s quite a big deal.”

Kyrie touched her forehead.

Inside the carriage was magic that shielded against the winter, but not everybody could be included within it.

After the carriage stopped for a while, the snow grew stronger. It was clear that a dangerous situation would come if they were to delay time like this.

At that moment, the guide who’d looked around the scene with a guilty expression had closed his eyes tightly and raised his hand. “May I please tell you something?”

Kyrie, who had been paying attention to his anxious gestures, opened her eyes sharply. “Go ahead. I don’t want to waste anymore time, so be fast.”

“There’s a small mountain village near here!” shouted the guide, urgent.

“A mountain village?” Kyrie looked down at the map. There was nothing specifically marked on it.

The guide shook his hand, which had begun to turn red from the cold. “Well, it’s not on the map, but there’s a town called Hercula! It may not catch the eyes of Milady, but it has some good inns!”

“There aren’t any villages on the map with a decent inn?”

“You aren’t going to play a weird trick, are you?” Valdir immediately drew his sword.

The guide who saw him fell on the floor as fast as lightning. “Absolutely not! It’s just that I thought that I’d really die if we went on like this…! The place I mentioned doesn’t have any outsiders, but only for now.”

“They don’t have any outsiders?”

Valdir stepped forward as if he were inflicting a death sentence, but Kyrie stopped him.
